Jatropha Foundation
Launched in 2007, Jatropha Foundation is a U.S. not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of a sustainable global Jatropha bio-energy sector. Initial focus is on strategy development as Jatropha bio-energy production capacity is expanding around the equator and will move into project implementation of rural development projects and sustainability initiatives for commercial production systems. Organizational philosophies pertain to sustainable business, social entrepreneurship, and working with the poorest of the poor in order to truly begin to alleviate systemic poverty via Jatropha energy independence.
- Strategy Development in developing economies and regions in order to cultivate an inclusive and triple-bottom-line business environment for sustainable and socially responsible production of Jatropha bio-energy. In this ty
pe of system, participants (service providers, producers, processors, retailers, and other stakeholders) produce and consume Jatropha bio-energy thereby maximizing the local energy economic multiplier effect.
- Village-level energy independence is necessary for long-term self-sustaining economic growth for disenfranchised rural villages in developing economies. Jatropha offers an efficient process for producing Jatropha bio-energy with minimal capital requirements affordable at the village-level through micro-finance programs.
- Sustainable Commercial Production Models are needed to profitably and sustainably meet global demand for Jatropha bio-energy. Jatropha Foundation will collaborate with industry and development professionals to design a model for sustainable commercial production of Jatropha bio-energy, focusing on agronomy, low-energy production systems, and socially responsible community development.
